CFP - 2013 Annual Meeting Canadian Historical Association

2013 CHA Annual Meeting

Intersections and Edges – University of Victoria, British Columbia June 2013

History is often a story of divergence and convergence. Those who study the past trace the edges that separate people, nations, eras, and ideas, but also identify the sites, terms, and significance of intersections, where edges blur and categorical distinctions fade. Sitting at the junction of past and present, interpreting one for the other, historians not only examine the contours of our experience, but also extend the reaches of our knowledge and push the boundaries of our craft.

Victoria offers an ideal location for the exploration of intersections and edges. On the edge of the continent, at the intersection of the Pacific Ocean and Salish Sea, and on Coast Salish territory, issues of indigeneity, coloniality and nationality resonate in a particularly compelling manner.

The Program Committee for the Annual Meeting of the Canadian Historical Association invites proposals from scholars working in all areas of history, and particularly from those whose work examines intersections and edges, whose scholarship stretches the boundaries of the field, or whose studies intersect with other disciplines. Individual paper proposals should include a 200-word abstract and a one-page cv. Panel proposals should include a 300-word overview of the panel theme, an abstract and one-page cv for each presenter, plus the names and short cvs of the proposed chair and commentator. While the Program Committee strongly encourages panel submissions, each paper proposal will be evaluated on its own merits and the program committee may reorganize the panels as necessary. Those individuals who would consider having their presentations livestreamed should indicate so in their proposals.

Proposals should be submitted online at http://cha-shc2013.cathe deadline for submission of proposals is October 15, 2012. Questions should be directed to chashc@uvic.ca.
